Epes is located on the Tennessee-Tombigbee River way in Sumter County. The abundance of woodlands and water access make the area famous for hunting and fishing. Just 30 miles south of Epes lays historic Demopolis, Alabama, where the Tombigbee and Black Warrior Rivers converge. Demopolis features a yacht basin, several boat landings and multiple state park facilities. Demopolis hosts Christmas on the River Week in December and Freedom on the River in July. Art exhibits, theater productions and craft shows are held during the year. Demopolis has many fine restaurants and shops, as well as well-known retail stores.


If you are looking for great shopping without the fuss of a big city, Meridian, Mississippi lies 40 miles west of Epes. Scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, moderate living costs, access to good healthcare and year-round mild weather describes this East Mississippi community. Meridian is culturally rich in theater, concerts and music, where the Jimmie Rodgers Music Festival is a much anticipated annual event.
