Rock the Block Team Spotlight: Lyndsay & Leslie
- Design
- Flooring
- Decorating
Now that season five of HGTV’s Rock the Block has wrapped up, we’re stunned by the incredible homes each team designed this season. Since every team created some amazing spaces, we wanted to take the time to highlight each team’s hard work.
All of the teams on this season of Rock the Block were very familiar with the competition. Each of them had competed in past seasons of Rock the Block, but didn’t win the season. One of those teams included Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis of Unsellable Houses. In addition to Unsellable Houses, Lyndsay and Leslie were on Rock the Block in season three, which took place in Charleston, South Carolina.
With lots of lessons learned from their last appearance on Rock the Block, Lyndsay and Leslie fully embraced season five’s Florida setting and set out to design and build out their waterfront home with a style they called Tropical Paradise. In the end, they designed a home that was fun and stylish, but also very livable with lots of practical features. Many rooms in their home featured Sonoma flooring in Cork from Mannington’s ADURA®Max luxury vinyl collection. Sonoma features beautiful growth lines and realistic knots, enhanced by fuming to provide a rich underglow.
Kitchen & Dining Room
In the season five premiere, the teams started out by focusing on kitchens and dining rooms. In these spaces, Lyndsay and Leslie brought in a lot of varied wood tones, pops of green, and wicker accents that do a great job of creating some beachy, tropical vibes in a very chic way. Lyndsay and Leslie used their Sonoma flooring planks to their full advantage.
Living Room & Guest Suites
In episode two, Lyndsay and Leslie focused on their home's living areas. The idea of using flooring planks on the ceiling carried over from the kitchen and dining room into the living room to create a beautiful, cohesive look between the rooms. They also installed a fireplace to create an inviting focal point in the room and installed a large doorwall to let in lots of natural lighting and maximize the view of the water.
For their guest suite, Lyndsay and Leslie made some bold design choices in a Golden Girls inspired bedroom, complete with a tropical print accent wall and touches of pink. These bold, fun choices are balanced out with enough neutral tones to prevent the room from feeling overwhelming. The adjoining bathroom also featured some beautiful green tiles and floral print wallpaper that perfectly fit their Tropical Paradise theme.
Master Suite
Even though Lyndsay and Leslie didn’t win the main competition when they were on season three of Rock the Block, they did win that season’s master suite challenge and they were eager to win it again this time around. In this season’s master suite challenge in episode three, they worked to create a space that felt like a personal spa. For the bedroom area, they stuck to a neutral color palette, organic textures, and lots of curved lines. For some added luxury, they also included a refrigerator and coffee bar, perfect for having breakfast on the adjoining balcony.
Their walk-in closet was both decadent and functional, with features like motion-activated lighting and clothing racks that can be lowered to easily reach items, as well as a washer-dryer. For their master bathroom, they installed a range of spa-worthy features, including a large bathtub and sauna.
Multi-Functional Room Challenge
After taking care of work on their home’s exteriors and outdoor spaces in episodes four and five, Lyndsay and Leslie got back inside in episode six to work on their surprise challenge of creating a multi-purpose guest room. They opted to create a bedroom/music studio, complete with acoustic panels that are both stylish and practical and guitars displayed in wall-mounted shadow boxes.
Finishing Touches
In the season finale, we saw the teams put the final touches on their homes. For Lyndsay and Leslie, that meant turning their upstairs loft area into an office area with lots of built-in storage and a bold grass cloth wallpaper that adds texture and visual interest. They also created an extra laundry area for their home along with an area for washing dogs.
Rock the Block Season 5 Winner (Spoilers Ahead!)
After the homes were appraised and the contestants got to tour each other’s homes for the first time, the sky lit up with the names of the winning team: Lyndsay and Leslie! The street this year’s competition was held on was renamed “Lyndsay and Leslie Lane” in their honor and a major congrats goes out to them!
