Ever wonder how we stay on top of the latest design trends? We always want to see how past trends are evolving and understand what’s driving emerging trends and recently, members of our styling team took a trip to Orlando, Florida to attend Coverings, a trade show focusing on the latest flooring trends. After the show, Terry Marchetta, Vice President of Residential Styling, Cristen DelBove, Director of Styling, and Renee Cannon, Senior Stylist, were excited to share some of the top key trends they spotted.
1. Natural Materials
Flooring inspired by natural materials, like limestone, marble, travertine, concrete, or terracotta, are trending in a big way. When flooring has organic edges and a raw appearance, it not only adds depth and visual interest to a space, it reminds people of the outdoors and creates a calming and restorative ambiance. With so many styles of home decor drawing inspiration from nature right now, it’s very easy to make this trend work in your home.
2. Color
From classic neutrals to nature inspired hues, trending colors for 2023 are all about creating a comfortable atmosphere. Neutrals are timeless and will always have a place in home décor, but right now, people are gravitating toward cozier tones that can ground a room. We’re seeing this in warmer natural shades like clay and other earth tones inspired by the outdoors, such as blues and greens.
3. Retro Shapes
Look to the past for inspiration because everything retro is new again. We’re seeing a revival of square checkerboard throwbacks and whether it’s in a classic black-and-white layout, pictured below with our ADURA®Flex Luxury Vinyl Tile in Villa, or bolder colors for a more modern take, this is the perfect way to incorporate retro influence in your kitchen, bathroom, or utility room.
4. Dimensional Textures
At Coverings, there were many styles that appealed to the sense of touch. Tiles featuring three dimensional textures not only bring a lot of visual interest to a space, but they also create a richer experience by adding a unique design.
5. Statement Stones
Within the natural flooring trend, we spotted a resurgence in colorful stones, particularly ones with exaggerated veining and texture. Whether it’s marble, soapstone, river rock, or basalt, we’re seeing statement stones in slab formats dominating floors, countertops, and backsplashes. Our ADURA®APEX Luxury Vinyl Tile in Artemis is a great example of this look.
